I Love My Park Day 2018

May 5 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Come help The Harlem Valley Rail Trail celebrate I Love My Park Day on May 5th, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m!  We have two volunteer projects planned for the day.  They are:

Elinor Mettler Memorial Garden

We are planning to build a small 8ft by 8ft raised garden in front of the Taconic State Park Copake Falls headquarters.  Mrs. Mettler was a community minded person and founder and the driving force behind the HVRT.

Work Description
Gardening.  We will remove grass, install landscaping fabric, railroad tie border, fill with topsoil and top with mulch.  We will then install several hardy plants and water.  Finally we will install a plaque commemorating Mrs. Mettlers amazing contribution to The Rail Trail.

What to Bring
Sturdy boots, long pants and shirt, gardening gloves, water and snacks.  Any gardening tools such as shovels, landscaping rakes, trowels you can bring would be greatly appreciated.

Kiosk and Railing Staining

If we have the time, we would like to restain the kiosk and railing at the Orphan Farm parking lot.

Work Description
Scraping and painting.

What to Bring
Clothing you don’t mind getting paint on.  We will have brushes and stain on site.
