Become a Rail Trail Volunteer!
We are always looking for people to volunteer to help the Rail Trail. Please browse the different options, click Volunteering Form and submit it to us.

Adopt a Trail: Great exercise! Adopt a 1,000-foot section of the trail and periodically walk it. Perform trimming, pruning, and other light custodial work. Be HVRTA's eyes and ears for your section of trail.

Trail Maintenance: Come out on assigned work days and help on special projects that may include anything from hanging signs, to clearing a fallen tree, to helping to install a bench. You will work with and get to know other volunteers.

Hospitality tables: Great to do with a friend or family. Hand out brochures, sell t-shirts, sign up new members, and answer questions. Tables are set up in trail parking lots on weekends and holidays. We also have a table at seasonal festivals, county fairs, and community events and celebrations.

Photography: If you enjoy taking pictures, take your camera along the trail and send us your most memorable photographs. We need pictures of our trail heads, seasonal photographs and people enjoying the trails.

Brochure distribution: You can do any or all of the following: Develop and update a list of businesses (contact person, address and phone number) in your area that should have trail brochures; check with businesses to see when they need more; deliver more brochures when businesses run out.

Community Activities: Let us know what is happening in your community. If you know of any up-coming events that might interest our trail users, please e-mail or call us. Alert us to chances in your community to publicize the trail, educate people, and recruit more volunteers.

Educational Speakers: Share your enthusiasm and knowledge about the trail. Give a presentation at a civic, fraternal or school group meeting or do a guided nature tour on the trail. We have a speakers manual chock-full of information and a slideshow with photos on the trail.

Mailings: Assemble mailings to members, volunteers, legislators and others. Collate, stuff, and affix postage and labels on envelopes. A great way to meet volunteers or a fun family activity to do by the pool, the fireplace or the TV.

Merchandise Marketing: Lend the trail your marketing skills. Help promote, sell and deliver our t-shirts, hats, water bottles and possibly other items to area residents, businesses and organizations.

Newsletter: Let your writing or editing talents shine for the trail. Help write an article or send us your anecdotes to add to our seasonal newsletter or website.
